About The Stained Glass Workshop & Team

WELCOME TO THE STAINED GLASS WORKSHOP

Situated in the village of Ridgeway, Ontario, The Stained Glass Workshop offers expert design, manufacture, restoration and repair of traditionally built Stained Glass panels, along with traditional stained glass classes should you feel that creative urge. We offer both standard commissions directly from our online catalogue, along with design assistance using your own ideas, designs and requirements. There is also a healthy collection of antique stained glass panels within our shop pages with most over or well over the 100-year-old mark.

GENERAL STAINED GLASS LOVELINESS

The Stained Glass Workshop offers free consultations at your home, within the shop or remotely by telephone/video link. We also have standard panel packages within these pages. Just pick the package you like or a mix of a few and we can redesign as required, manufacture and ship directly to your home without the need for a shop or home visit.

As noted above, fully and lovingly restored antique stained glass panels are also available. See our full shop pages for further information.

STAINED GLASS CLASSES

On top of these services, come July 2023 when the new workshop is completed, our founder Michael Hockham will also be kicking off traditional Stained Glass courses for those of you who would like to dabble in this centuries-old art. We are taking bookings now and you can find further details, including pricing via the 'services' and 'shop' pages. Again, thank you for dropping in on us here and please, give us a tinkle should you feel we can be of assistance. We are operating from a smaller space pre-June 2023 however, you are most welcome to drop by. The coffee's awful but warm and the advice, as it always will be, is free of charge!

ABOUT YOUR PRIME STAINED GLASS ARTIST

Michael Hockham was trained to British Heritage Standard in the design, manufacture, restoration and installation of traditional leaded-light stained glass in one of the most renowned cathedral glass shops in England. lucky enough to have cut his teeth on stained glass dating back to the 12th century and with expert tuition from solid, long-term artisans, he learned his craft from the very best. Michael’s career took a diversion for 25+ years as he moved through multiple glazing industry disciplines culminating in the management of custom high-rise glass facades or ’skyscraper glazing.’

Afforded the opportunity to work globally, following contracts throughout Europe, the Middle and Far East, in 2012, Canada became a full-time home for Mike and his little family. From one extreme to the other, Michael has worked through multiple disciplines within the glazing industry and while still consulting for high-rise glazing applications, his goal is to finish his career firmly back at that stained glass bench.

Mike is also able to transfer those modern glass & glazing skills to heritage works by way of ensuring that antique stained glass is able to live and breathe in the modern world where 'R' & 'U' values are so important.

The Stained Glass Workshop is Michael’s full-circle completion and a return to the sector of the industry he’s most passionate about.

JOOP HOCKHAM

Learning from the ground up, Joop has the work ethic of someone much older and I dare say, from a different generation. Joop, being a teenager and very much in touch with technology, helps us get our product and name out there while soaking up the core skill-sets required to keep the workshop open long after Rin and I have wrapped up.
